App guides

A quick tour of the main screens and features. Use the jumps below to go directly to a topic.

Getting started

On first launch, language selection and onboarding introduce the basics — including how scoring works (3 pts exact score, 1 pt correct outcome, rankings by average). Then sign in with Apple, Google, or as a guest (fewer features). After sign-in, finish your profile (name, avatar) so others recognise you in leagues.

Sign-in: Apple, Google or guest

Apple and Google are used only for secure sign-in — we never see your Apple/Google password. You can revoke access in your device ID settings.

More details are available in our Privacy policy.

Guest mode lets you try quickly without an account, but we recommend a full account for sync, notifications, and PubCoins.

My league tab

See every league you're in: active, archived, or pending approval. Each league shows basics and pending items (e.g. join requests for owners). The competition switcher at the top lets you jump between different competitions.

Use "Join with code" or scan QR if you have an invite. Tap "Create a league" to start the setup wizard — see Creating a game for the full walkthrough.

Creating a game

From the League tab, tap Create a league. The wizard has eight steps: sport → league → name → photo (optional) → description → house rules → prize → settings.

Sport: football is available now (more sports are coming soon). League: pick a popular competition for the current season, or search by name (at least 3 characters). Leagues with no upcoming matches are hidden from the popular list; in search they appear greyed out and cannot be selected.

Right after you pick a league, a sheet opens to set scope: all remaining rounds, specific rounds, or individual matches on the Matches tab — ideal for a cup final, one pub night, or a shortened season.

Description, house rules, and prize are optional. AI can suggest or improve text fields. Prizes are a private agreement between players — the app does not process payments, hold funds, or organise gambling.

On the settings step you choose private (invite code / QR only) or public (visible in Explore). You can allow editing predictions before kick-off, hide others' picks until kick-off, require join approval, and cap players. Scoring is fixed: 3 pts exact score, 1 pt correct outcome, 0 otherwise. Rankings use average points per prediction.

Paid Entry (optional): when enabled, every player who joins pays a one-time fee via the App Store or Google Play — the game creator gets in for free, costs are split between all players. If join approval is also on, players request for free and the payment is only triggered after you approve them.

Creating a game costs PubCoins (from your wallet) or a one-time in-app purchase via the App Store / Google Play. A payment screen lets you choose. After payment the game is created. Public games then ask you to set a map location so nearby players can find you in Explore; private games open straight to the game screen.

The game uses your app language. In Explore, players can filter public games by language, country, city, and distance.

PubCoins

PubCoins are the in-app virtual currency. They have no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred between users.

Earn coins automatically: daily login (+5 per day), 3-day and 7-day login streak bonuses, joining a public game, completing all predictions in a round, getting exact scores, correctly predicting a goalscorer, inviting a friend, and finishing in the top 3 of the weekly leaderboard.

Spend coins on: creating a private or public game, joining a premium or private group that has a coin entry cost, and editing a prediction after it has been submitted (keeping things competitive).

Buy PubCoin packs via the App Store or Google Play: tap your coin balance in the top bar, or go to Settings → PubCoins. Purchases are one-time; there is no subscription. If coins are missing after a purchase, use 'Restore Purchases' in Account Settings.

Explore tab

Discover public leagues listed by organisers. Filter by your app language, country, city, or distance (when location access is enabled).

Request to join where the organiser allows it. Some leagues require manual approval; others let you in instantly with an invite code.

Today tab

Overview of today's matches and predictions across your leagues. The Tips tab shows matches still waiting for your prediction; Scores shows live and finished games with points earned.

Game screen (details)

Inside a league you open Predictions, Standings, Players, Matches (finished games and everyone's picks), Groups, house rules, prizes, and more depending on the owner. Owners can edit settings, approve join requests, share invite posters, and set or update location for public games.

Tap a match before kick-off to enter your prediction. Whether picks can be edited or hidden from others until kick-off depends on the league settings.

The context switcher (tap the competition banner at the top of the game screen) lets you switch between different games and groups in the same competition without going back to the League tab.

Groups

Groups are private leaderboards within an official competition game. All group members predict the same matches as everyone else — the group ranking is completely separate from the main game standings. Everyone competes on the same fixtures; groups are not separate games.

There are three group types. Private: only members with the 6-character invite code can join — ideal for friends, colleagues, or a closed community. Public: visible to all tournament participants, anyone can browse and join directly or request to join. Sponsored / Official: branded groups for companies, fan clubs, or supporter communities — applied for through the app and set up by the PubLeague team with an official badge, unlimited members, and priority visibility.

To create a group, open the Groups tab inside any game and tap Create group. The wizard asks: group type → name → description (optional) → prize (optional) → photo (optional) → settings (require join approval, member limit, join coin cost). Creating a group is free. For a Sponsored group, fill in the application form — the team will contact you about setup and pricing.

To join a group, tap Join group and enter the 6-character invite code, or tap the QR icon to scan a code. Public groups can also be joined directly from the public list inside the Groups tab. If a group has a PubCoin join cost, the amount is deducted from your wallet at the moment of joining.

Your groups appear in the Groups tab of the game and in the context switcher at the top of the game screen. Group standings are visible on the Rankings tab — switch between Players and Groups views.

Invites, code & QR

Each league has an invite code and often a QR that opens the app. Share an invite poster from the game screen. If someone doesn't have the app, use the HTTPS web link (e.g. /join?code=…) — the page explains download and repeats the code.

League password: if enabled, you'll need the password from the organiser during joining.

Groups also use 6-character invite codes and QR codes. Share a group code from inside the group screen. Public groups don't require a code — find them in the Groups tab or the public explore list.

Notifications

See events such as join-request decisions, score updates, kickoff reminders, and daily Today reminders when you still owe predictions. Push permissions can be adjusted in system settings and under Settings → Notifications in the app.

Settings & profile

In Settings you change theme, language, notifications, account and open Help (this guide), Privacy policy and Terms. The PubCoins section shows your wallet balance and transaction history. App version info helps support when reporting issues.
